I've been afraid to go to sleep since my sleep study. I'm afraid I'll quit breathing or something and die.
And I had another thought. What if it's my Ambien that's making me fat? Maybe it's not as hormonal as I think it is. After my hysterectomy I couldn't sleep, so I started Ambien. My weight gain really started to take off and get out of hand. I started hormone therapy to no avail. In the meantime I'm still taking Ambien every night. It doesn't help me rest, but it makes me binge eat. If I indeed have sleep apnea, is it from the Ambien? Is it doing more harm than good? Is it relaxing my muscles so my throat collapses, keeping me from getting good sleep and thus making me tired and hungry all day and then binge again when I take it at night??? What the hell is going on?? I want to get off of it. I'm going to start lowering my dose. I'll call my doctor and see if it's okay to cut them in half. I know some pills you aren't supposed to cut.
Oh, and happy birthday to my dad. Born 10/10/53 - Died 8/3/11
I have always thought that your Ambien wasn't helping you. Like when you were keeping track of calories, you would binge eat in your sleep. So how do you know if you ate more than you burned. Like all you hard work was for nothing. And I don't like taking stuff that's supposed to make you drowsy. I've noticed that when I take anti-histamines or advil p.m. that after a good amount of sleep that I still feel tired. You don't get good rem sleep when you take stuff.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Dee. Ambien has crazy side effects. If you have restless leg syndrome, hopefully there's a med that can help it and not have side effects like Ambien.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you are on to something Tiff. In googling it a little, seems weight gain and all kinds of crazy side effects are possible. Good idea to ask your doc before you do anything. Wouldn't that be cool if it was the ambien all along? Sounds too easy, but it would be great.
ReplyDeleteI've not liked you being on Ambien just for the fact that it's for severe short term sleeping issues ONLY--not long term. And there's other possibly worse side effects other than binge eating. What if you ended up driving your car (like some people do on Ambien) and getting in a car wreck and die because you hit someone else or they hit you? Stuff like that isn't unheard of while people are on Ambien.
